Helping Nadia and Victoria at Lazarus Brewing
Where Bentoberfest lives is at the intersection of good beer and helping young people in need. A member of the Austin beer community needs some help, and we're going to show up the best we can. Please take a moment to read more about Nadia and consider making a donation to help Victoria and Nadia. Any donations made by the Bentoberfest community (and reported to Ben) will be honored for the event on September 24 and will be matched with a donation to Dell Children's Foundation.
Victoria & Nadia Need Our Help!!!
From Christian and the Lazarus Team
Hey friends, as the founder of Lazarus Brewing (Austin TX), I'm writing on behalf of one of our longtime employees - Victoria Carvalho (that's her on the left). If you've ever visited Lazarus, there's a good chance you've seen Vic's smiling face behind the bar: she is a hardworking mom who is raising three amazing daughters while putting herself through school to become a doula.
This past week, Victoria's 14 year old daughter Nadia (that's her on the right) experienced unusual pain, numbness and tingling that impacted her mobility and spread rapidly through her body. She was hospitalized at Dell Children's Hospital, where doctors have spent the last few days running a battery of tests.
The good news is that Nadia is in great hands with some of the best physicians in the country.
The bad news is that the situation is serious - we still don't know the root cause, but doctors have indicated that it's not going to be a simple or swift recovery.
Victoria and Nadia need help covering the cost of ER, testing, MRIs, and treatment (once they figure out what that even looks like). In addition, Victoria will need time off to care for Nadia. We'd like to raise $20,000 to help offset medical costs and living expenses.
We talk a lot about "sharing life" at Lazarus. That's more enjoyable in good times, but often more meaningful when we're willing to share in the hard times too.
How can you help? Well, you can donate here (Lazarus will receive those funds and pass them on to Victoria). In addition, you can share this page with friends who might like to help too. And you can post it on your social media feeds too. All donations will remain anonymous, but I think it would be a great way of supporting one of our own.
